Okay, so I've been thinking about making a platformer fangame due to getting into them again recently, and looked at my old
start at making a platformer game. Some reflection from it:
What do I like about this old fan game?
1.
A boss on every level. I want to up the difficulty, and this would be a fun way to do it. If I make another one, especially since I'm thinking of making it Halloween themed, this is something I would take, I'd love to come up with Halloween food bosses and Halloween versions of Sarge and Radley.
2.
Goals to complete levels in a certain amount of time. Maybe it's because of my recent speed run obsession, but the idea of having a challenge to complete a level in less than a certain amount of time sounds like fun to me, weather its a warp key or something else.
What didn't, in my opinion, go well with this game?
1.
Too ambitious of a project. I wanted to do level design for literally every single level. That's not gonna happen in a fan game, I need to know my limits if I make another one.
2.
Skills aren't the best. The only new skill I'm interesting at looking again is Invisibility, as I feel like that would fit with a Halloween theme, and maybe Froster has a small chance of showing up. I wanna make more creative skills if I do this again.
3.
Bosses are very random. Why Sarge? Why LuauLePunch? Why CactusMcCoy of all things? It's a game about cupcakes... I know Radley was in the game about Sundaes, but still. I feel like I can do better than that.
4.
Free cupcake day. Wow, how many times have we seen free ____ day go wrong?
That's just where my mind is now- no idea if I'll actually make a new version or not, but I'm very much thinking of trying.
