I honestly don't see why people find themselves stupid when they hear someone will be taking a college-level math class their first year of high school. The problem here is that it doesn't make much sense to skip a couple of math classes at once. Also, just because you take higher-level math at any age (especially at a younger age), it doesn't mean you'll become any "smarter". People here are treating like they can't ever learn calculus in their lives. You can self-study it? Maybe your middle/primary school doesn't offer high-school math like algebra or geometry, so that's why you're taking those classes at a later age/school year. It clearly depends on the education system, not intelligence. Remember that not everything you exactly learn at school will apply in "your future". Another problem here is that people claim their classes as "hard/difficult", "useless", etc. Why? Because what's the point of continuing with something you don't want to do?

At my middle school in 7th grade you can take Pre-Algebra if you're smart or 7th grade math if you're average. In 8th grade you can take Algebra 1, the first half of Algebra, called Algebra 1A, or 8th grade math.

I don't understand the point of pluses and minuses in grades. Can't they just make it A, B, C, D, E as grades (for simplicity purposes)? Or just make it pass/fail (a better way of grading, since it prevents the whining, babying, competition, aggressiveness of students)?

Actually, I didn't take trig. My computer's class was basically teaching me how to animate instead of code, which is not what I wanted. Animation involves most of trig, and I had to learn it. I took both 7th and 8th-grade math that year. I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade and I am currently taking Geometry now in 9th.

At my school they let you take Algebra 1 in 7th if you pass a test (which I did), or 8th if you pass all of your 6th grade tests. So now I'm in 8th, so I'm taking Geometry, but there are no Geometry teachers at my school, so I have to go to the high school to take math.

I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade, geometry in 9th grade, Algebra 2 in 10th grade, precalculus in 11th grade, and calculus in 12th grade. In college I've taken (the list is long since I'm a math major, and the classes aren't necessarily in the order I took them): Calculus 1 (differential calculus) Calculus 2 (integral calculus) Calculus 3 (multivariable/vector calculus) Linear Algebra Differential Equations Discrete Mathematics Abstract Algebra Real Analysis Real Analysis 2 Partial Differential Equations Mathematical Modeling Applied Linear Algebra Numerical Analysis Complex Analysis Probability & Statistics Topology
