I think we (At least my state) should be open already for the following reasons:

  • Most of the deaths in my state came from retirement homes
  • This virus has a 0.2% death rate, according to the CDC
  • We are a free country. You should be able to choose if you want to stay home or wear a mask, as you know what’s best for you, at least better than the government
  • Most of the deaths are from people who are over 65 years old
  • So you don't care if people in retirement homes die?
  • 0.2% is a high death rate when you consider how fast the virus spreads. A 0.2% death rate means 1 in 500 people who get sick will die.
  • That doesn't mean we are free to spread a disease which could potentially kill someone. We should all just stay in, and not spread the disease.
  • See my first point

Ok, so you're just happy to let innocent people die just because you are sick of being told to wear a simple face mask? My word that's entitled.

You could argue the same about the amount of cases being less than what's been given by the statistics. Some of those deaths could come from other types of viruses/illnesses, not just COVID-19. Terms like possibly, probably, likely, and maybe, aren't objective terms. They don't speak the truth, they define a belief or possibility. The most objective way of looking at the statistics is to check what's been given, not what's possible, probable, or likely. However, those statistics could be made up just to scare the entire world population.

inb4 "lies. i don't believe any of this bullbloop."

Do you believe in those sources? If so, why?

I think we (At least my state) should be open already for the following reasons:

  • Most of the deaths in my state came from retirement homes
  • This virus has a 0.2% death rate, according to the CDC

According to society, we aren't a free country. They don't understand the real definition of free, even if they claim to do so.
If we were free about everything, we would be able to do anything we want.

I guess I kinda see what you mean, but by far the main problem right now is that there's no treatment/vaccine for the virus yet. At least, not one that is widely available. Right now is a waiting game, and with that "waiting game" is having to engage in the stay at home orders. Regardless, your dream of all the young people going outside and doing what they want is impossible, as there is no way to trust some random person from not visiting their grandparents or an elderly citizen for example, thus giving them the virus on accident. As well, with so many people under unemployment it's not like every activity center is open for young people to go wild at. This way of handling the virus is plain impossible. I'm sorry, but it's the truth. Hmm

This is not even mentioning young people can and will die from this virus.

Sure being forced to stay at home all the time sucks, but do you know what sucks even more? You or a loved getting the virus. Losing a close friend and/or family member to COVID - 19. People not staying home, risking spreading the virus to people who are more at risk of death or severe illness. At the time of this post the reported death toll in the US due to COVID - 19 is 104K.

This current death toll in the US is alarming, 1000's of families have lost loved ones due to the virus, and it will only get worse, unless everyone does their part to prevent the spread of the disease. Presently, governors are reopening states, even if their state doesn't have the spread of the virus under control. However, despite states reopening, we can continue to stay at home and prevent the virus from spreading even further, and stop a potential second outbreak. Stay at home, and if you absolutely must go out wear a face mask, and convince others to do the same as well. If you are unwilling to do this to protect the lives of the elderly, at least do it, so that the virus can be controlled more quickly, and people can resume their normal lives quicker.
