Cactus mccoy 1 harder than cactus mccoy 2?

Don't know about others, but I find cactus mccoy and the cure of thorns harder than cactus mccoy 2: the ruins of calavera. Although cactus mccoy 2 has some more tricky treasures requiring breaking blocks nad climbing with ladder spear, and features such as swinging spiked balls and heat seeker rockets. It also has a lot of features that actually make it easier such as chackpoints and "health" and "defense" upgrades that make damage much lighter than on cactus mccoy 1. I have 100% completed second game and completed all levels and found all treasures in first one but struggle with some challenges. What do you think? Is cactus mccoy 1 really harder?
