Vol. I: Issue 033                                                                                             August 7th, 2026

Breaking news out of San Fresco, where the end of one musical era has already given way to a very unexpected encore.

In the wake of Hans “Beach” Beachum’s retirement and the official end of the Beach Cobblers as longtime fans knew them, the remaining members of the band have made one thing clear. They are not finished making music just yet.

And their new frontman? Well, you may want to sit down for this one.

The Cobblers are joining forces with one of San Fresco Wharf’s brightest and loudest new performers, Toby the sea lion. That is right, Cobbleheads. The former pendant-snatching headline-maker turned harmonica-playing wharf sensation is stepping into the spotlight once again, this time as the lead act for Toby and the Cobblers.

Now, if you have followed Toby’s second act, this move may not be as surprising as it first sounds. He has already proven his harmonica chops out on the rocks near the east end of the Wharf, drawing crowds with his seaside performances, red-tinted shades, and that unmistakable flair for showmanship. Add in a band with decades of yacht-rock experience, and you have the makings of something San Fresco will be talking about for quite some time.

The new group will launch this next chapter with a free show on the weathered boards of the Wharf before heading out on a world tour. Organizers say the kickoff performance will take place at Pinniped Quay, and fans are strongly encouraged to arrive early. Between longtime Cobbleheads, curious tourists, and Toby’s own growing fanbase, space is expected to fill quickly.

So yes, the Beach Cobblers as we knew them may have sailed off into the sunset, but the music has not gone quiet. A new name, a new sound, and Toby himself at center stage. I’ll be listening for the first note, because Duke’s Gotcha covered!

Hiya friends!

Weather-wise, things are looking pretty lovely across most of the continent today. The only real troublemaker on the map is a tropical depression way off the west coast, so for most of us, it is a pretty easygoing weather day.

Although I guess even on the sunniest days, you have to be ready for a few lows. I’m trying my best to keep a positive outlook, but I’ll admit, these last few weeks with Finley all the way out on Calypso Island have been a little harder than I expected. On the bright side, I’ve had plenty of time to perfect that cookie recipe of mine. On the not-so-bright side, I have also had plenty of time to eat those cookies. So… lots of cookies.

But let’s head over to San Fresco Wharf, where the week ahead is looking mild and comfortable overall.

We start off with some lovely sunshine before clouds, a few light showers, and that cool waterfront breeze settle in for a bit. Things brighten back up nicely later in the week, with comfortable temperatures and some really pleasant stretches for getting out along the pier.

So keep a light jacket and umbrella nearby for those grayer moments, but there should still be plenty of nice weather to enjoy around San Fresco Wharf this week.

The Mumph here, and who’s ready for the monster truck rally this weekend at the Sourdome? I know I am. Folks, I am a sucker for the old Swamp Stomper. Big tires, loud engine, mud flying, that thing rolls in like it has a personal grudge against gravity. That is entertainment.

But before the trucks start crushing cars, let’s talk baseball, because New Pepperton did some crushing of its own.

The Percolators and Flapjacks stayed quiet early, with both clubs feeling each other out through the first two innings. Then New Pepperton scratched one across in the third, added another in the seventh, and tacked on one more in the eighth. Not flashy, not wild, just steady pressure and clean execution.

And on the mound, Cremazzo was the story. Maple Mountain could not get anything cooking against him. No big rally, no crooked number, no late push. Griddon did what he could for the Flapjacks, keeping things close for most of the afternoon, but when your lineup gets held to zero, every little mistake feels twice as heavy.

Final score, New Pepperton Percolators 3, Maple Mountain Flapjacks 0. Winner, New Pepperton. MVP, Cremazzo on the mound.

My two cents, a shutout is a statement. You do not need fireworks when your pitcher turns the whole other dugout into spectators.

Hello out there…

Today marks the beginning of a little time away from the newsroom. I am calling it a sabbatical, though anyone who knows me knows sitting still has never been my strong suit.

While I am out, I am counting on all of you to keep your eyes open. There are always loose threads, odd details, and questions that deserve an answer. If something feels wrong, do not dismiss it.

Keep watching. Keep asking. Keep notes. And if something won’t sit right, follow it. I certainly shall. There are some questions I have been carrying for a while, and I intend to pursue them with the same care and skepticism I always have.

So be vigilant while I am gone, my fellow Scoopers. Keep digging. I know I will.

And that’s The Scoop.
